Minister of Defense Pieter De crem of Belgium

De Crem is the man who, immediately upon formation of the Leterme government in Spring 2008, took the necessary steps to send at least a token contribution to the real fight in Afghanistan.

The most visible change since De Crem took the helm at Defense is that since mid-September, four F-16 MLU5 fighter bombers are actively participating in CAS (Close Air Support) operations, together with Dutch and French planes, from the southern Kandahar Airport.

So Minister De Crem is probably being just wise.

De Crem has faced criticism for visiting a New York City, United States bar on taxpayer money claiming it was for a United Nations meeting.

Although these allegation are not proven, De Crem has admitted he called the employer of 'the witness blogger' (bar in NY) while questioned in the Belgian chamber.

It is a shame that politicians are acting like little children instead of doing their job the way they should be doing it.

Although I think De Crem is a creep, this issue has nothing to do with freedom of speech.

But De Crem is a man of action who will not allow things like self-reflection and common sense get in the way of what needs to be done.

De Crem is beside himself, after all what kind of world is it where public servants cannot go overseas to get ripped on the public dime without some nosy blogger telling everyone about it.

Following his visit, bartender Nathalie Lubbe Bakker blogged about their visit (in Dutch), talking about how disgusted she was of how drunk De Crem was and how embarrased she was about his behavior.
