Sven Alkalaj was born in Sarajevo and graduated in mechanical engineering at the University of Sarajevo in 1974.

Alkalaj said that such positive relations were one of the reasons for his visit to Turkey.
Alkalaj said that because Serbia is a large and important neighbour, and there is a substantial Serbian population in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the relations with Serbia are very important.
Alkalaj said that for Bosnia and Herzegovina, although NATO membership has a higher priority than EU membership both for the continuance of stability and reforms, EU membership is also very important.
Officials in Bosnias Foreign Ministry, speaking on condition of anonymity, also denied the allegations, saying that in the past few months Alkalaj has held a series of meetings with senior EU officials.
