Minister of Health Evgeniy Zhelev of Bulgaria
The former Mayor of the city of Stara Zagora Evgeniy Zhelev was nominated Tuesday Bulgaria's next Health Minister.
On Tuesday Evgenyi Zhelev was nominated as Bulgaria's new Health Minister in the government of PM Sergey Stanishev, replacing Radoslav Gaydarski.
Zhelev was born on July 22, 1957, in the city of Stara Zagora in southeastern Bulgaria.
Between 1997 and 1999 Zhelev was the Director of the District Hospital in Stara Zagora.
Zhelev has been awarded the French Medal of Service, the second most important medal in France, and the Russian Medal Petar I for contributing to the development of the Bulgarian-Russian relations.
Zhelev is a member of the EU Committee of Regions.

Evgenii Zhelev said after a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, a reporter of FOCUS News Agency informed.
Zhelev was proposed by the socialist to become Minister of Healthcare.

Commenting the health insurance contribution, newly appointed Health Minister Evgeniy Zhelev said that an internal redistribution in the social security system will make it possible to increase the size of the contribution without creating any additional burdens to the people or employers.
Zhelev said that the Health Ministry can open the bidding and competitions for building the system within a couple of months while the implementation of the system will need 18 to 24 months.
Zhelev said that by September the Health Ministry will have an inspectorate to monitor irregularities and corruption.
Emerging from a meeting of the social partners in the health care sector on Friday, newly appointed Health Minister Evgeniy Zhelev said that the Ministry and the trade unions have no considerable differences as to the current key issues in the health care sector: privatization of medical establishments, financing of health care and de-monopolization of the health insurance system, BTA reports.
