Government spokesman Patrick Achi said there is an urgent need for food assistance in western and central Ivory Coast.

Achi says the government will send 150,000 tons of food products and also seeds and farming equipment to the region by the end of the year.

Donor countries are helping the government pay for the clean-up operation but infrastructure minister Patrick Achi said those responsible for the dumping were expected to reimburse the costs.

ABIDJAN, May 15 (AFP) - The unity government of war-torn Ivory Coast will send investigators to probe attacks on civilians in the western region bordering Liberia, spokesman Patrick Achi said Thursday.

From this day, the qualification of war zone attributable to a part of Ivorian territory is no longer applicable," Infrastructure Minister Patrick Achi said over state television.
