Ambassador to the US Andreas Kakouris of Cyprus
Ambassador Kakouris was invited to NIU to speak at a seminar for graduate students on the current situation in Cyprus and give a lecture to high-school teachers on genocide and human rights.
Kakouris has been trying to make known to the international community the situation that has been occurring on the island of Cyprus which has been the occupation of Turkish troops.
Ambassador Kakouris is concurrently accredited as High Commissioner of Cyprus to Canada.
Kakouris is the former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cyprus to Ireland (2002-2006.
Ambassador Kakouris was born in the United Kingdom (1960) and is married to Kareen Farrell Kakouris with two children, Stephen and Andreana.
Kakouris says he feels “the EU is the catalyst for change and remains hopeful that the EU can also be a catalyst for a settlement.
Kakouris said the government had redoubled its efforts in monitoring international art markets to locate and repatriate stolen artefacts.
