ISTANBUL - Greek Foreign Minister Theodora Bakoyianni said on Saturday that there might be some problems, but Turkey and Greece, two friendly countries, should not hesitate to hold talks in all difficult situations.
Noting that the Greek people were highly mentally charged because a young man was lost, Bakoyianni said that there was a lack of confidence among Greek people against Turkey.
Referring to the Cyprus issue, Bakoyianni said that Lefkosa was the only divided capital in Europe.
Recalling that Greece had made a strategic decision to support Turkey's EU membership process, Bakoyianni expressed her belief that all European countries should be included in the EU.
Noting that the Greek-Orthodox Patriarchate did not pose any threat against Turkey, Bakoyianni said that it could be a great advantage in Turkey's EU process.
Stressing that permanent and fair solution for Cyprus problem should be based on bi-zonal and bi-communal federation principle, Bakoyianni said that Turkey`s EU membership process should be assessed within that scope.
Bakoyianni said that they discussed regional and international matters which concern both countries as well as Balkans and Middle East issues during their meeting.
Asked whether Greece and Bulgaria would recognize an independent Kosovo, Bakoyianni said that we are not there yet.
No matter what the result will be, the international community and the EU in particular must stay committed to the Kosovo issue, the Greek Foreign Minister Theodora Bakoyianni said during a visit to Bucharest at the end of November.
Bakoyianni expressed Athens’ interest in re-establishment of the two countries’ joint economic commission, as well as the establishment of Iran-Greek chamber of commerce.
ATHENS, November 6 (RIA Novosti) - Greece is willing to mediate negotiations following the conflict surrounding Georgia's breakaway republic of South Ossetia, Greek Foreign Minister Theodora Bakoyianni said on Thursday.
Theodora Bakoyianni said the atmosphere was "not very pleasant" as ministers discussed Russian President Vladimir Putin's state of the nation address.
