Minister of Interior Cipriano Cassama of Guinea-Bissau

Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Batista Tagme Na Wai has issued a communique, saying Interior Minister Cipriano Cassama was behind shooting at him by elements of the presidential guard, the Dakar-based APA News Agency reported on Wednesday.

Interior Minister Cipriano Cassama said one presidential bodyguard was killed in the assault and another wounded.

In an apparent coup attempt, the soldiers attacked President Joao Bernardo Vieira's home with heavy artillery fire shortly after midnight, killing at least one of his guards and injuring several others before security forces were able to push them back, Interior Minister Cipriano Cassama said earlier.
