NEW DELHI, March 18 (UPI) -- India has unveiled a program to support megawatt-sized, grid-interactive solar power-generation projects up to a maximum capacity of 50 MW.
NEW DELHI, Feb 29 (UPI) -- India's biomass power potential has been estimated at 18,000 MWe, junior Minister for New and Renewable Energy Vilas Muttemwar said Friday.
Speaking to reporters here, Mr Muttemwar said Mr Patel, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, had wrongly claimed that Finance minister P Chidambaram and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia had opposed the proposed transfer when the matter came up for discussion before the union cabinet last month.
Mr Muttemwar said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi had themselves written to him, complimenting him on the union cabinet's approval for transferring the city airport to MIHAN.

Inaugurating a three-day international exhibition and conference Renewable Energy India 2008 Expo, Muttemwar said India has abundant potential for harnessing energy from renewable resources such as solar, wind, biomass and hydro.
Muttemwar said concessional import duty on certain components, excise duty exemption and 10-year tax holiday on income generated from wind power projects will continue to be extended to private players.

The government will announce a policy on bio-fuels in the first week of March, Muttemwar said on the sidelines of a two-day national convention on bio-diesel organised by Biodiesel Association of India (BDAI), a body representing the bio-fuel industry.
Chairing the convention, Raghuvansh Prasad, minister for rural development, who along with Muttemwar is in the GoM on bio-fuels, reiterated his ministrys support for bio-fuels, which he described as the energy of the future.
While speaking at a conclave on hydrogen energy in the Capital on Monday, Mr Muttemwar said that the Ministry is confident of achieving over 10 per cent of the total installed power generating capacity in the country from renewable resources by 2012.
While participating in the national level function of Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas at Panchkula, Muttemwar said there are 140 manufacturing units engaged in the manufacturing of water heater equipment in the country.
Emphasising the need for adopting non-conventional energy resources, union minister for new and renewable energy Vilas Muttemwar said today that Nagpur would soon have Asia’s biggest solar thermal generation project of 10 MW which would help meet the rising demand for energy.
