After a short time in the private sector Mr Semeta was asked by the Prime Minister to join the civil service again.

An interesting fact on the private side is that Mr Semeta was a champion Gymnast in Lithuania in the 1970s.

Semeta has been heading the Department of Statistics since September 2001.

Semeta was a finance minister in 1997-1999, at the Government led by Gediminas Vagnorius.
