Permanent Representative to the UN, New York Dalius Cekuolis of Lithuania

Cekuolis was nominated by Eastern European Group as a Vice-chair of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations.
Ambassador Cekuolis was Head of the Committee of Senior Officials of the Council of the Baltic Sea States, in charge of the Presidency of the Republic of Lithuania of that body from 1998 to 1999.
Cekuolis was born on 29 March 1959 in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Dalius Cekuolis is the Ambassador to the United Nations for Lithuania.
Outgoing President Dalius Cekuolis said ECOSOC is well on its way to becoming “the Charter body that was envisaged by the founding members of this Organization,” noting that ECOSOC has raised the visibility of the development agenda, by engaging and mobilizing the international community to find practical measures to address poverty.
Cekuolis said that Lithuania and Iraq were turning a new page in the history of bilateral relations.
Speaking after his election, Cekuolis said development efforts of each country should be complemented by relevant global policies and programs.
In his concluding remarks, Council President Dalius Cekuolis said it had been, in many ways, a ground-breaking substantive session.
