Minister of Housing and Local Government Ka Chuan Ong of Malaysia

Ong is the older brother of MCA President Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting.
Born in Kota Tampan New Village in Lenggong, Perak, Ong has a Bachelor of Arts in Literature from Universiti Malaya.
Ong joined the MCA in 1978 and actively participated in politics.
Ong has stated that he wished he could bring more development to Perak, adding it had been nearly 10 years since the state MCA had a minister.
Ong was born on November 15, 1956 in Perak.
From 1986 until 1990, Ong was the political secretary to the then Minister of Transport.
Ong was next appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Home Affairs from 25 February 1991 through April 1995, before being promoted to be the Deputy Minister of the same Ministry on 3 May 1993.
In the subsequent Cabinet reshuffle, Ong was not retained as a member of the Cabinet by his request, as he wanted to focused his energies in restructuring and reengineering the MCA to win back Chinese voters' support.
Thong has since quit his position as the Perak MCA English-speaking bureau head.
Ong said MCA would also not team up with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) as it did not want history to repeat itself.
Ong said the late Tan gave his full support to IMP because he was a good friend of Onn but the party did not receive support from the people and was dissolved in 1954.
On Perak DAP chief Ngeh Koo Ham as the Deputy Mentri Besar (I), Ong said the Perak constitution states that the MB must be a Malay, though the Sultan has the discretion to waive this.
Ong said Chan’s name was submitted to the prime minister but Chan himself said he would not run even if Abdullah gave his approval for him to contest.
Ong is the current Minister of Housing and Local Government in the Malaysian cabinet, and also serves as the secretary-general of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) and Perak MCA chairman.
Ong said that issues involving divorce, custody of children and inheritance in matters of constitutional rights of non-Muslims had increased dramatically in the last three years.
