For the benefit of the readers of this column and for those who work in the FSM government department Im eventually going to write about here, let me remind you that anything that appears under the heading of K-Press Perspective is strictly my opinion, thus the heading, Opinion at the top of this page.

On May 11, 2007, Mori was elected President of the Federated States of Micronesia, defeating the incumbent, Joseph Urusemal.
Genealogical records showed that Mori is the great-grandson of Koben Mori.
In his youth, Mori was initially drawn to the appeal of the Japanese takeover of Korea at that time, but later found interest in the wonders of Micronesia, which was relatively unknown to Japanese at that time.
Once in Chuuk, Koben Mori found a few Japanese traders who had settled there a few years earlier.
Koben Mori married the twelve-year old daughter of a Chuukese chieftain from Weno, with whom he had eleven children.
President Mori has therefore been scheduled to depart for Guam where he will undergo a more thorough medical assessment.
Mori said Micronesia-China relations were founded on the basis of mutual respect.
Mori said the friendly relationship between Micronesia and China has developed smoothly, and the two sides have developed successful cooperation in the fields of communication, energy, agriculture, fishery, trade and tourism, which has helped strengthen Micronesia's ability of national construction.
Mori has a daughter currently serving in the US.
