Jetta Klijnsma was born in Hoogeveen, Drenthe, on 18 March 1957.

Ms Klijnsma has performed various outside activities.

Klijnsma has on a number of occasions served as acting mayor in Mayor Deetman’s absence.

Jetta Klijnsma was born on 18 March 1957 in Hoogeveen, province of Drenthe, and spent her childhood there.

Ms Klijnsma has held various ancillary positions throughout, including member of the Supervisory Board of the Office for Aids Projects, chairperson of the Welfare and Public Health committee of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG), chairperson of the Centre for Local Governance of the Dutch Labour Party, chairperson of the Stichting Correlatie and member of the Board of Governors of the Wiardi Beckman foundation.

On 18 December 2008, Jetta Klijnsma was appointed state secretary of Social Affairs and Employment in the fourth government headed by Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende.

At the age of 13 Jetta Klijnsma found herself in a rehabilitation centre learning to walk again after an operation on her legs.

Jetta Klijnsma is a prominent member of the PvdA.
