Minister of Health Soccoh Kabia of Sierra Leone

Soccoh Kabia is a Sierra Leonean medical doctor and politician, who currently serves as Sierra Leone Minister of Health.
Kabia is one of few members from the oppostion parties to be appointed as ministers in the current government.
With less than 120 doctors in the country, Sierra Leones Health Minister, Dr Soccoh Kabia has secured the services of 110 foreign doctors to help improve the countrys health sector.
Soccoh Kabia said the country is in dire need of help to meet with its numerous health care challenges, adding that the team's presence and assistance would go a long way in complementing government’s effort to improve the health care delivery system in the country.
Kabia said he has embarked on a lot of reforms in his ministry including the strategic plan for reproductive child health and the delivery of services to the people in the process of reformation.

Soccoh Kabia said he has asked for 50 Cuban, 30 Nigerian and 30 Egyptian doctors to help the government salvage the shortage of doctors in Sierra Leone.
Kabia said the UN development agency, UNDP has donated US$1 million with the help of World Health Organization (WHO) to boost the health sector and build up capacity of the existing human resource base.
Kabia said each district hospital would have an obstetrician, gynecologist, aesthetician midwives and eye clinic.

Making a conducted tour of the centre, Dr Kabia was able to meet with over 50 vesico vaginal fistula patients who have undergone operations.

Soccoh Kabia has said that plans are afoot to establish a Pool Funding System in the Ministry to enhance transparency, accountability, probity and good management that would be more resourceful for the countrys health care delivery system.
Kabia said a recent Demographic and Health Survey indicator has revealed a decrease in Neonatal and under-five mortality and lauded his staff and partners for the joint effort in achieving what he said would help improve our Human Development Index.
Kabia said the disease was endemic in the eastern region of the country including the third largest city, Kenema and the surrounding towns of Tongo Field, Panguma and Kailahun.
