Slovakia will sign an agreement with the United States that will lead to visa-free travel, Interior Minister Robert Kalinak said on Friday.

BRATISLAVA (Reuters) - Slovakia will sign an agreement with the United States that will lead to visa-free travel, Interior Minister Robert Kalinak said on Friday.

Kalinak said he would sign a memorandum of understanding in Washington on Monday, following other ex-communist European Union members that had recently agreed to similar deals.

In his letter, Kalinak said Slovakian police had acted within the law, and that their intervention was aimed at hooligans, not at Slovakian, Hungarian, Czech or any other supporters.

After the fulfillment of the provisions of this contract, our eastern frontier will meet a high standard for Schengen borders, Slovak Interior Minister Robert Kalinak said in a news conference.
