Minister of Police and National Security Samuel Manetoali of Solomon Islands
The Minister for Police and National Security Samuel Manetoali has pledged to use his Ministry's 2008 Budget allocations to provide a safe and secure environment for Solomon Islands.
Minister Manetoali said that capacity development is progressing as well and selected overseas attachments for professional development to ensure long term sustainability are also going ahead well.
POLICE minister Samuel Manetoali says its a lot harder for members of the public to get hold of firearms now compared to the days of the ethnic tensions.
Mr Manetoali said compensation payouts began last week in Honiara and Guadalcanal and the team disbursing payments will later go out to the provinces.
Mr Manetoali said the number of road accidents recorded in the capital this year from January to the end of last month stands at 220.
Mr Manetoali said steps have been taken, which resulted in the improvement of traffic campaigns, vehicle checks, traffic patrols and prosecution of offenders.

The Minister for Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Hon Samuel Manetoali is holding consultations in Australia this week on RAMSIs work with the Solomon Islands Police and Correctional Services.
Mr Manetoali said that in return he would be briefing the Australian Government and relevant authorities on the CNURA Governments policies on police and correctional services, especially the Governments strong commitment to the maintenance of law and order and the development of a strong and independent police force in Solomon Islands.
The MP for Gao Bogutu, Samuel Manetoali is the Parliamentary Secretary for downstream processing, whilst Southeast Vella La Vella MP Trevor Olavae takes on the Parliamentary Secretary position for the review of CEMA.
Samuel Manetoali has disputed allegations by the Opposition Leader Manasseh Sogavare that Australia waited until the situation suited its motives.
Mr Manetoali says RAMSI was invited because the Solomons parliament recognised that the government had lost control of the country.
The Solomon Islands Police Minister Samuel Manetoali is in Australia to meet various senior officials involved with the deployment of personnel to the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands, RAMSI.
Mr Manetoali says he ordered the release because the logs were already cut and the options were either to stop the export of the logs and let them rot and waste or proceed with the export Proceeds of the sale will be held in trust while a court examines the circumstances of the ships detention and release.
