UpdatedTuesday, April 22, 2008 0:00amTWN,The China Post news staff & CNANew gov't to review financial reforms: ChiuTAIPEI, Taiwan -- The incoming Kuomintang (KMT) government will review the second stage of financial reforms launched by the incumbent Democratic Progressive Party administration and come up with effective measures to expand the financial services market, Vice Premier-designate Paul Chiu said yesterday.

Liu said Chiu meets the qualifications of "integrity and competence.

Asked by reporters if the new government will continue the financial reforms initiated by the DPP government, Chiu said the direction of the existing reforms, which is focused on mergers and acquisitions to boost the competitiveness of local financial institutions, is generally correct.

Stressing that sound financial structure is quite imperative to a nation's economic development, Chiu said that the KMT administration will make more efforts on expanding the scale of the domestic financial service market and following the market mechanism to upgrade the effectiveness of domestic financial institutions.
