In 2005, Tajik Defense Minister Sherali Khayrulloyev met with Irans former Defense Minister Ali Shamkhani in Tehran and signed a memorandum of understanding on expansion of defense cooperation.

Visiting Tajik Defence Minister General Sherali Khayrulloyev met on February 10 with his Iranian counterpart Mostafa Mohammad Najjar on expansion of defense cooperation between the two countries.

Khayrulloyev has sent a request to have more exchange programs, joint exercises and training regimens with neighbooring Pakistan and China with whom relations have been strengthening and improving over the last few years.
