Although he tried to be composed, Mr Pinda was seen to be anxious and a little bit nervous.

Pinda was born in the Rukwa Region.

Pinda was nominated as Prime Minister by President Jakaya Kikwete on February 8, 2008, after the resignation of Edward Lowassa over allegations of corruption.

Pinda was sworn in as Prime Minister at Chamwino State House in Dodoma on February 9.

As expected, the nomination of Pinda was endorsed resoundingly by the House in which CCM has a huge majority.

Pinda was one of several prominent figures mentioned as possible candidates for the post.

Born in 1948, Mizengo Kayanza Peter Pinda is the first born in a family he himself calls a predominantly peasant family.

Pinda has been officially endorsed to become the new Prime Minister by 279 yes votes or 98.
